Two Iraqi asylum seekers were sentenced to imprisonment for homicide and robbery committed in Kajaani, central Finland, Finnish news agency STT reported on Friday.
The elder man, born in 1988, received a ten-year and ten-month unconditional prison sentence. The younger one, born in 1997, was sentenced to six years' jail.
The crime occurred in September this year when a 52-year-old local man was found dead and another resident aged 41 was robbed in the Otamaki district, about 37 km from the center of Kajaani.
The defendants beat and kicked the victim, and one of them even strangled him. The Kainuu District Court affirmed that the violence caused the victim's death.
They had tried to use the victim's bank card to withdraw money, but failed, as the account was empty.
The two Iraqis also pushed another victim to the ground and robbed his mobile phone and some coins.
The court convicted that the offenders were guilty of homicide, aggravated robbery, basic scale of robbery and payment fraud.
In addition to prison sentences, the offenders have to pay the funeral expenses, as well as compensation for moral damages to the victim's family. Endit
