Luis Suarez agrees new contract with FC Barcelona

Xinhua, December 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

FC Barcelona announced on Thursday that striker Luis Suarez has agreed a new contract which will keep him at the club until the end of June 2021.

The club's official website, www.fcbarcelona.com confirmed that the player will pen his new deal at a ceremony in the Camp Nou Stadium on Friday lunchtime.

The new contract will see Suarez's buyout clause to 200 million euros (around 220 million US dollars), which should put him out of the price-range of any other football club.

The news follows declarations made by club President, Josep Maria Bartomeu a week ago when he said talks over a new contract were close to reaching fruition and that a deal could be expected in the near future.

After joining Barcelona from Liverpool in the summer of 2014, Suarez has made 119 appearances for the club, scoring 97 goals and winning 8 titles, including the Primera Liga and King's Cup on two occasions each, as well as the 2015 Champions League, as part of an attacking trident alongside Neymar Jr and Leo Messi.

Neymar signed a new contract in October and Barcelona will now turn their attention to securing the future of Leo Messi, whose current contract is due to expire at the end of June 2018. Endit
