Trumps nominates congressman Ryan Zinke as secretary of interior

Xinhua, December 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday picked Congressman of Montana Ryan Zinke to be his interior secretary.

"He has built one of the strongest track records on championing regulatory relief, forest management, responsible energy development and public land issues," Trump said in a statement released on his official website.

"I will work tirelessly to ensure our public lands are managed and preserved in a way that benefits everyone for generations to come," Zinke said.

The U.S. Department of Interior is responsible for the management and conservation of most federal land and natural resources, and its chief is a member of the cabinet.

Zinke, 55, is a retired service member and entered the House of Representatives in 2015. Endit
