Pakistani authorities burn tons of narcotics in Islamabad

Pakistani anti-narcotics authorities on Thursday burnt over 50 tons of narcotics that were seized across the country in various operations, officials said.

Director General of Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Major General Nasir Dilawar Shah told the gathering that approximately 51.577 tons of narcotics were burnt, adding that this year the ANF has burnt a total of 350.021 tons of drugs worth 2,886.9 million rupees (some 27.54 million U.S. dollars) in four provincial capitals.

"ANF is homing on to 'Anti-Drug Drives' in major cities, with special focus on the educational institutions," said the official.

Shah said in 2016, ANF has prosecuted 424 cases, out of which 382 were convicted, which includes four death penalties and 81 life imprisonments. Endit
