Number of employees in German manufacturing edges up

The number of employees working in the sector of manufacturing in Germany rose slightly in October of 2016, official data showed on Thursday.

According to provisional results of a report by the Federal Statistical Office Destatis, 5.4 million people worked in local manufacturing units which have 50 or more persons employed, at the end of October 2016, which represents a year-on-year rise of 0.7 percent.

The report noted that the number of working hours in October decreased to 680 million hours, 6.9 percent less than the same month last year.

However, the earnings of employees amounted to 21.4 billion euros (22.3 billion dollars) in October, up by 2.2 percent year on year, the report added. (1 euro=1.04 U.S. dollars) Endit
