Israel wins Czech military tender for mobile radars

Xinhua, December 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Israel won a tender to deliver eight mobile radars worth 2.9 billion crowns (about 116 million U.S. dollars) to the Czech military by 2021, Czech Defense Minister Martin Stropnicky announced at a press conference here after a government meeting on Wednesday.

Stropnicky said that under the contract, a large part of the manufacturing would be conducted in the Czech Republic. Czech's Retia company, based in Pardubice, east Bohemia, will cooperate on the contract.

The new 3D Mobile Air Defense Radars (MADR) to replace obsolete Soviet-made radars would enable the Czech military to control the air situation in altitudes between 100 and 3,000 meters, according to the minister.

And the contract also includes logistic support for 20 years, added Stropnicky.

He said the two sides would start discussing the details of the contract by Christmas, and the signing should be in the middle of 2017.

He unveiled that the first parts of the radars should be available to Czech military in 2019, and the complete replacement should be finished no later than in 2021. Endit
