Former Nanjing Party chief sentenced to 12.5 years for graft

Xinhua, December 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Yang Weize, former Communist Party chief of Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, was sentenced by a Zhejiang Province court to 12 and a half years in prison for accepting bribes totaling over 16 million yuan (around 2.32 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday.

Personal assets worth 2 million yuan belonging to Yang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Jiangsu Provincial Committee, were confiscated, according to a statement from Ningbo Intermediate People's Court.

His ill-gotten gains must be turned over to the state, the court ruled.

Yang was found guilty of taking advantage of his positions to seek profits for others in real estate development, corporate development and job promotions between 2005 and 2014, it said.

He accepted bribes worth about 16.43 million yuan either by himself or via his wife.

The court issued a lesser punishment as Yang admitted his crimes and voluntarily turned over his illicit gains. Endit
