Ukraine seeks to deepen cooperation with Latvia along Silk Road: deputy PM

Ukraine sees good prospects for deepening its cooperation with Latvia within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze said here on Tuesday.

"We are focusing on the cooperation to develop links between the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea within the Trans-Caspian transport corridor," Klympush-Tsintsadze told reporters after the meeting of the Ukrainian-Latvian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation.

The partnership will offer new opportunities for the two countries to intensify agriculture cooperation, investment and tourism, she said.

Ukraine, which has a freight train connection with Latvia, plans to launch a cargo train to China via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) next year, traversing Georgia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

The TITR corridor, part of China's Belt and Road Initiative, uses railway, maritime and road transport for transportation of goods. Endit
