Philippine president makes 1st visit to Cambodia

Xinhua, December 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, accompanied by boxing superstar and senator Manny Pacquiao and other high-profile figures, arrived here Tuesday evening for a two-day visit.

According to the official schedule, Duterte will be received in a royal audience by Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni on Wednesday morning and meet with Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Wednesday afternoon.

Duterte and Hun Sen will witness a signing ceremony of two bilateral cooperation documents after their talks at the Peace Palace.

The documents are a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in combating transnational crime and a memorandum of agreement on sports cooperation, said a Cambodian foreign ministry statement.

The Philippine president will also meet with the Filipino community in Cambodia.

Both Duterte and Pacquiao made their first visit to Cambodia. On Friday last week, Hun Sen advised the Cambodian Boxing Federation to invite Pacquiao for a visit to its headquarters.

Pacquiao is very popular in Cambodia, and even the prime minister is a fan. Endit
