Armenian PM discusses investment opportunities with Argentine-Armenian tycoon

Xinhua, December 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan presented the recent changes and reforms initiated by the government, in a meeting with Argentine-Armenian billionaire Eduardo Eurnekian on Monday, according to the Press Office of the Armenian Government.

PM Karapetyan and Eurnekian talked about the construction of a solar power plant in Armenia's Armavir region, a hydropower plant in the southern town of Meghri, as well as the issue of developing the infrastructures of the airports in capital Yerevan and in Gyumri, Armenia's second largest city.

The Armenian Premier said the government was planning to establish a center for strategic initiatives, which will be tasked with undertaking steps to boost Armenia's economy.

Edurardo Eurnekian, an Argentine-Armenian businessman with an estimated net worth of 1.9 billion USD, has been investing millions of dollars in Armenia since 2001. Eurnekian's Corporación América has a 30-year concession agreement for the management of operations of Zvartnots International Airport, Armenia's largest airport. The consortium owned by Eurnekian operates about 76 airports in the world.

Karen Karapetyan, who was recently appointed prime minister, has been pushing for new economic reforms in Armenia in a bid to attract more foreign investments and revive Armenia's economy, which in his own words is "in extremely bad shape." Enditem.
