Ghana sets up team for power transition after elections

Xinhua, December 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama on Sunday inaugurated a 16-member transition team to oversee the smooth transfer of power to the next administration.

The team was put together by both President Mahama and president-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in accordance with the presidential transition law, following the election of Akufo-Addo of the opposition New Patriotic Party in last Wednesday's general election.

Akufo-Addo won the presidential election with over 5.7 million votes representing 53.85 percent of the total valid votes cast while his closest challenger John Mahama of the governing National Democratic Congress obtained over 4.7 million votes or 44.40 percent.

Akufo-Addo implored members of the team to let cooperation and openness guide their work. The team is expected to work till the inauguration of the incoming president-elect on January 7, 2017. Endit
