Tokyo shares open higher on sharp gains in U.S. stocks

Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday tracing sharp gains on the Wall Street as optimism over fiscal stimulus plans of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump flooded the market.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 215.49 points, or 1.13 percent, from Friday to 19,211.86.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 12.46 points, or 0.82 percent, to 1,537.82.

Gainers were led by mining, oil and coal product, and securities issues. Endit
