Wholesale trade sales continue upwards in New Zealand

Xinhua, December 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Wholesale trade sales in New Zealand edged up for the second straight quarter in the quarter ending September, the government statistics agency said Monday.

Total sales were up 1 percent in the September quarter, after rising 1.7 percent in the June quarter and falling 0.2 percent in the March quarter, according to Statistics New Zealand.

"The September quarter's rise in total wholesaling was led by agriculture products and motor vehicles," business indicators senior manager Neil Kelly said in a statement.

Five of the six wholesaling industries rose in the September quarter, with the largest rises in basic materials, motor vehicle and vehicle parts, and machinery and equipment.

"Basic material wholesaling includes businesses that trade in industries such as metal, mineral, and agriculture product wholesaling," Kelly said.

The trend for wholesale trade sales had generally been increasing since late 2009.

The actual value of wholesale trade sales was 24.2 billion NZ dollars (17.25 billion U.S. dollars) in the latest quarter, up 2.4 percent from the September 2015 quarter. Endit
