The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Friday.

-- About 105 families have been left homeless in eastern Zambia's Nyimba district after the roofs of their houses were blown off during a downpour on Sunday.

The country's meteorological body has warned that the country will experience flash floods in some areas during the current rain season. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- Zambia and South Africa have committed to strengthen cooperation in trade and investment, science and technology, defense and energy following high-level discussions between leaders of the two countries.

President Edgar Lungu has been in South Africa since Wednesday for a three-day State visit at the invitation of his counterpart President Jacob Zuma. (Times of Zambia)

-- Six traditional leaders and several others in western Zambia's Kalabo district sustained serious injuries after being attacked by their subjects over succession wrangles.

The incident involves the Nkoya-speaking people who have been fighting since the death of their chief on who should succeed him.

Reports say that the situation in the area was tense as factions had been formed over the succession of the late chief and started attacking each other. (Daily Nation)

-- Zambia's foreign affairs minister has come to the defense of President Edgar Lungu who has come under attack over his foreign trips, saying the trips were meant to benefit the country.

Lungu has made five trips in 30 days and is currently in South Africa. He has so far been to Angola, Morocco, Tanzania, Equatorial Guinea, Mauritius and South African within a month. He is expected to travel to Egypt next week. (The Mast) Endit
