China-ASEAN legal cooperation center launches branch in Cambodia

Xinhua, December 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

The China-ASEAN Legal Cooperation Center (CALCC) opened its branch here on Thursday to enhance legal cooperation between China and Cambodia, officials said.

Meanwhile, the CALCC and the Cambodia's National Commercial Arbitration Center (NCAC) also announced their cooperation to provide legal aid and arbitration service to investors when commercial disputes arise.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An said the Cambodian government fully support the presence of CALCC here and the arbitration cooperation between CALCC and NCAC.

"I believe that the CALCC will contribute further to enhancing legal cooperation between Cambodia and China," she told the launching ceremony, attended by 200 people who are legal experts and businesspeople of both countries.

"The arbitration cooperation between the CALCC and the NCAC is very important to provide legal aid to both Chinese and Cambodian businesspeople and to help them when business conflicts arise," she said.

Cambodian Justice Minister Ang Vong Vathana said CALCC has been actively contributing to China-ASEAN Free Trade Area building and has become a key platform for legal cooperation between China and ASEAN countries.

According to the minister, to date CALCC has opened its branches in eight ASEAN countries, namely Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, the Philippines and Cambodia.

He also voiced his support for the arbitration cooperation between CALCC and NCAC, saying that their cooperation was crucial to safeguard the interests of Chinese investors in Cambodia.

Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Xiong Bo said the launching of CALCC in Cambodia and its cooperation with the NCAC would provide a solid guarantee in legal services for cooperation between China and Cambodia under the framework of "One Belt One Road" initiative.

"The opening of CALCC in Cambodia will further enhance legal cooperation between China and Cambodia and strengthen the quality of bilateral cooperation in economics, trade and investment, as well as reduce business conflicts," he said. Enditem
