European Commission, bloc members will support Montenegrin EU path: PM

Xinhua, December 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

Montenegro will have the undivided support of all European Union (EU) member countries to enter a new phase of accession negotiations marked by closing the first chapters in 2017, Prime Minister Dusko Markovic said on Wednesday.

"In each segment of our policies, we will have both the support of the European Commission and bilateral support of EU member countries," Markovic said.

The prime minister presented key aims of the new government that "besides dealing with EU negotiation process, includes other priorities of Montenegro's foreign and interior policies."

"We will turn reforms into concrete actions beneficial for our citizens, to secure overall fiscal and macroeconomic stability, improve the business climate to attract foreign investors as well as to create new opportunities for our economy and development," Markovic said.

The new pro-European Union, pro-NATO government of Montenegro with Markovic as the prime minister and 19 ministries was formed on Nov. 28 following the Oct. 16 elections.

He said the country will open at least two new chapters of EU negotiations in December, and close its first chapter in the beginning of next year. Enditem
