Ghanaian general elections begin

Ghana's general elections began from 7 a.m. (0700 GMT) on Wednesday, with more than 15 million registered voters casting their ballots at 29,000 polling stations across the country.

Incumbent President John Dramani Mahama, who represents the ruling National Democratic Congress, is running for his second and final four-year term.

Mahama's archrival is Nana Akufo-Addo, leader of the largest opposition New Patriotic Party.

Mahama remains popular among Ghanians, but he is also blamed for an obvious economic slowdown, loss of employment and price hikes during his first term as president.

Polls will close at 5 p.m. (1700 GMT) and the results will be announced on Friday.

Besides the president, voters will also elect 275 legislators for the next four years. Endi
