Tokyo shares climb in morning on firm U.S. stocks

Tokyo shares climbed Wednesday morning on strong U.S. stocks overnight as a result of expectations of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's fiscal stimulus plans.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 73.25 points, or 0.4 percent, from Tuesday to 18,433.79.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 6.4 points, or 0.43 percent, to 1,483.60.

Gainers were led by banking, marine transportation, and electric power and gas issues. Endit
