A final farewell to Chinese masters

Editor’s note: 2016 witnessed the sad passing of a number of great Chinese cultural icons. The notable deaths included writers, performers, translators, actors and songwriters. Here we look back at the masters we lost and pay tribute to them for giving us joy and memories.

Yan Su (1930-2016)

Yan Su, a prominent dramatist and songwriter for the People's Liberation Army (PLA), died on Feb. 12 at the age of 86. He received more than 100 awards, including lifetime achievement awards for his contributions to opera, drama and music. He was praised by the public for his devotion to art and his moral integrity.
