Latvia struggles to raise appeal among foreign investors: survey

Xinhua, December 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Despite efforts to create a more investment-friendly business climate, Latvia's appeal to foreign businessmen has not increased much, the Foreign Investors' Council in Latvia (FICIL) concluded in its latest survey released on Monday

The most pressing issues worrying foreign investors include Latvia's unpredictable taxation system, shortage of skilled workforce and a lack of long-term development strategy, the survey reveals.

Respondents, who represented various foreign companies operating in Latvia, pointed to issues including the grey economy, corruption, social security and healthcare system as affecting the country's potential.

The FICIL Sentiment Index 2015-2016 shows that half of Latvia's large investors are planning further investments and to increase the size of their investments in Latvia.
