Profile: Gabon's President Ali Bongo Ondimba

President of the Republic of Gabon Ali Bongo Ondimba will pay a state visit to China from Tuesday to Friday at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Born on Feb. 9, 1959, Ali Bongo became a deputy to the National Assembly in 1990 and served as defense minister in 1999.

He has been Gabonese president since 2009. He is also president of the Gabonese Democratic Party.

Ali Bongo was educated in France and graduated from the University of Paris with a Ph.D. degree in law.

The 57-year-old had visited China 10 times before he became president in 2009. After he became president, he attended the opening ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo in 2010.

This is the president's first state visit to China. Endi
