9.8 pct increase in tourists in Malta for Oct.

Total inbound visitors to Malta in October was estimated at 219,484, an increase of 9.8 percent when compared to the corresponding month of 2015, figures issued by Malta's national statistics office on Friday showed.

The figures indicated that a total of 185,975 inbound tourist trips were carried out for holiday purposes, while a further 16,488 were for business trips.

Malta also saw an increase in tourists visiting from EU members. This figure went up by 10.3 percent to 183,982 when compared to October 2015.

With regards to the age of tourists, the majority were between 45 and 64 years old totaling.

The number of nights tourists spent in Malta in October this year also went up by 3.9 percent when compared to October 2015, amounting to 1,543,665 nights. A total of 61.3 percent of guest nights were spent in collective accommodation establishments.

Total tourist expenditure saw an increase of 4.1 percent compared to October 2015, and was estimated at 189.5 million euros (202.3 million U.S. dollars). Endit
