Nairobi bourse ends week on high as turnover rises

Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) trading ended the week on a high as turnover rose to 5.3 million dollars on a volume of 22 million shares from 14.2 million worth 3.5 million dollars in the previous session.

Safaricom, Kenya's leading telecommunication service provider, was the top mover as it attracted mainly foreign inflows to trade 9.7 million shares at 0.19 dollars.

Equity Bank was the second day's top mover trading 7.4 million shares at an unchanged price of 0.30 dollars, most of them foreign sales.

The NSE 20 Share Index closed the week at 3,248.02 points, a marginal drop of 2 points from the previous session.

The All Share Index (NASI), on the other hand, settled at 136.43 points, a slight drop from 136.74 the previous day while the 25 Share Index rose marginally to 3,595.33 points

Overall, the bourse's weekly turnover rose to 28 billion dollars from 19 million dollars on a volume of 111 million shares against 100 million the previous week, thanks to Safaricom's vibrant trading. Endit
