1st LD Writethru: 6 die in apparent Austrian murder-suicide

Xinhua, December 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Six people have died in an apparent murder-suicide at an inn in the Austrian district of Schildberg in the district of St. Polten-Landstate in Lower Austria, the Krone newspaper reported on Thursday.

The report stated that the six people -- three generations of the same family -- had been found shot dead in their home.

The Krone newspaper reported that initial investigations indicated a woman had shot her mother, brother, twin sons aged 10, seven-year-old daughter, and the family dog before taking her own life with what was believe to be a pistol.

It is as yet unclear when the incident took place, though the children had reportedly not been at school for some days.

The home had previously been a guest house, the former operator having sold it to the family, who lived locally, about one year ago. He said police had called him on Thursday morning asking for access to the building, as they'd wished to conduct an inspection.

He said the family had been inconspicuous, with no known incidents of quarrelling.

A neighbour also stated the family had been withdrawn.

Police investigations are still underway. Endit
