The U.S. private sector added 216,000 jobs in November, said a private survey released on Wednesday, well above the market expectation.
U.S. private companies added 216,000 jobs in November, said the National Employment Report released jointly by Automatic Data Processing (ADP) and Moody's Analytics, based on a monthly survey.
The data is much better than the market expectation of 170,000 job gains. Private jobs added in October were revised down to 119,000 from the previous report of 147,000 increase.
"For the month of November 2016 we saw very strong job growth that has almost doubled in gains over October 2016," said Ahu Yildirmaz, vice president and head of the ADP Research Institute.
"This growth was seen in primarily consumer-driven industries like retail and, leisure and hospitality, across all company sizes. Overall, consumers are feeling confident and are driving the strong performance we currently see in the job market," Yildirmaz said.
"Businesses hired aggressively in November and there is little evidence that the uncertainty surrounding the presidential election dampened hiring," said Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody' s Analytics.
In November small and medium-sized businesses accounted for more than half of the employment gains, adding 126,000 jobs, while large businesses with more than 500 employees added 90,000 jobs, according to the survery.
Employment in the service sector rose by 228,000 jobs in November, while the goods-producing employment fell by 11,000 jobs, said the survey.
The ADP survey studied data from private businesses with more than 23 million workers on payrolls but excludes government job growth. Endit
