The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 1.44 points, or 0.01 percent, from Tuesday at 18,308.48.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 0.86 points, or 0.06 percent, higher at 1,469.43.

Gainers were led by securities, grass and ceramics products, and construction issues.

The day's turnover was about 3,249.2 billion yen (around 28.83 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
