More than 50 Dalmatian pelicans were spotted this week in China's Yellow River Delta, the largest migratory transfer station for the birds in east Asia.
Dalmatian pelican is class B protected species in China and listed as endangered on Birdlife International's Red List. There are fewer than 100 in east Asia, according to Wetlands International.
The species first appeared in the Yellow River Delta in 2006. Since then, varying numbers of the birds have passed through the region on migration each year.
Established in 1992, the 153,000-hectare Yellow River Delta Nature Reserve is located at Dongying City in east China's Shandong Province.
In November, more than 100,000 rare migratory birds were spotted in the reserve, as the ecology of the region's wetlands recovers through increased conservation efforts. Endi
