Spanish police detain four over possible extremist links

Xinhua, November 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

Spanish Civil Guards on Monday arrested four people suspected of organizing an illegal immigration network used by the Islamic State to transport fighters from Turkey into Europe.

The Spanish Interior Ministry said that two of the arrests were made in Coruna in northwest Spain and two in Almeria in the southeast of the country.

In relation to these arrests, security forces are investigating any Spanish connections of two suspected extremists detained in Salzburg, Austria after entering Europe through the Greek island of Lesvos with a group of 200-odd Syrian refugees in October 2015.

With these arrests, the Spanish Interior Ministry said security forces have arrested 168 suspected extremists since Spain was placed on a level four (high) alert in June 2015. Endit
