Singapore air force conduct air defence exercise

Xinhua, November 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) conducted an air defence exercise entitled "Exercise Vigilant Shield 2016" on Monday, said the Ministry of Defence in a press release.

The ministry said the exercise demonstrated the Air Defence Task Force's capabilities in responding to potential air threats with a 24/7 networked air defence system.

Chief of Air Force Major-General Mervyn Tan visited the exercise at Singapore Air Traffic Control Center and witnessed the coordinated response to a simulated hijacked aircraft that was headed towards Singapore.

Tan noted the successful conduct of this exercise demonstrated RSAF's robust networked air defence system and the tight inter-agency linkages with RSAF's partners.

This year's exercise involved about 400 participants from RSAF, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and the Singapore Police Force. RSAF also deployed assets such as the F-15SG fighter aircraft, AH-64D Apache helicopter, I-HAWK, SPYDER and RBS-70 Ground-Based Air Defence systems, said the ministry. Endit
