The following are highlights of South African major news outlets on Monday.

-- At least three members of President Jacob Zuma's cabinet are said to have led impassioned calls for him to step down or that the ANC national executive committee vote to remove him.

Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi and Public Works Minister Thulas Nxesi asked Zuma to resign. They were strongly supported by ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu. (News24)

-- ANC structures around the country have embarked on an ambitious campaign to boost numbers ahead of next year's national elective conference.

The conference, set to take place in December 2017, will choose a successor to President Jacob Zuma and elect a new national executive for the party. (City Press)

-- Some economists are optimistic that there are strong grounds for rating agency Standard and Poor's to keep South Africa's credit rating at triple 'B' minus with a negative outlook this Friday.
