Baby monkey stolen from Australian wildlife park reunited with mum

A popular baby monkey that was stolen with its older sister and father from a wildlife park south of Sydney has been found and returned to its mother, Australian media reported on Monday.

Police believed thieves had allegedly broken into the Symbio Wildlife Park's Pygmy Marmoset enclosure late on Friday night to steal the four-week-old baby, which is too young for its sex to be identified, the Australian Associated Press reported.

The baby monkey's 10-month old sister Sofia and father Gomez were also allegedly stolen. The two younger monkeys were found on Sunday and two men have been charged, but Gomez is still missing, AAP reported.

Animal experts had warned that the four-week-old would likely die if it spent more than a day away from its mother. The baby's twin would also die because their mother was too stressed to feed, AAP reported.

The infant monkey was found in a car with two men, who are believed to be brothers aged 23 and 26, in Sydney's southwest on Sunday afternoon following a tip-off. The men were arrested and charged, police said.

The suspects have been refused bail and are set to appear in court on Monday, AAP reported.

Authorities are also urging people with information about Gomez to contact them. Endit
