Corinthians, Botafogo slip in Libertadores pursuit

Xinhua, November 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Corinthians missed a chance to move into Brazil's Copa Libertadores places when they were held to a goalless home draw by Atletico Paranaense on Saturday.

The result at Arena Corinthians left the six-time Brazilian Serie A champions in seventh place in the standings, a point behind Botafogo with one match remaining in the season.

The top six teams will earn a berth in next year's Copa Libertadores, South America's premier club competition.

Meanwhile Botafogo continued their shaky end to the season when they were held to a 1-1 home draw by Ponte Preta.

The Rio de Janeiro outfit, promoted from the Serie B last year, have not won since October 19.

In Saturday's only other top-flight match, Sport Recife drew 2-2 at America Mineiro. Endit
