Vasco da Gama secure Brazil Serie A return

Xinhua, November 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Four-time Brazilian Serie A winners Vasco da Gama earned promotion back to the country's top flight on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Ceara.

Former Brazil under-21 striker Thalles struck both goals at the Maracana stadium while Eduardo was on target of the visitors.

The victory in the final match of the season lifted Vasco to third place in the Serie B standings with 65 points from 38 matches.

Bahia also secured a Serie A berth despite a 2-1 home loss to Atletico Goianiense. Oeste's 2-0 victory over Nautico ensured Bahia finished fourth.

Atletico Goianiense and Avai had already booked their places in the top division in 2017.

In the Serie A, America Mineiro, Santa Cruz, and Figueirense are already certain to be demoted to the second tier. Endit
