Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Isik on Friday criticized Austrian military embargo on Turkey, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
The Austrian parliament late on Thursday approved a motion for the government to restrict the sale of arms to Turkey.
"We strongly condemn Austria's decision," Isik told reporters in Ankara.
Isik noted that Turkey would not be affected by Austria's decision in practice, adding that the decision had revealed Austria's attitude.
All six Austrian parties unanimously backed the motion, which urged the government to consider the "threat of armed conflicts" as well as the human rights situation regarding approval of such exports, Austria Press Agency reported.
It additionally specified the treatment by the Turkish government of journalists, opposition politicians, as well as the Kurdish population in Turkey as grounding for the motion.
The decision came the same day the European Parliament voted to approve a non-binding bill urging the EU to halt accession talks with Ankara. Endit
