Record number of students enrolls in German winter semester

The number of students enrolled at German institutions of higher education is higher than ever before in the winter semester of 2016-2017, official data showed on Friday.

According to the first provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office Destatis, the number of students at German institutions of higher education amounts to roughly 2.81 million in the current winter semester.

Compared to the winter semester of 2015-2016, the number has risen by 48,300 people, representing an increase of 1.8 percent.

Among those enrolled are approximately 1.35 million female students, a year-on-year rise of 2.3 percent. Enditem
