Israeli forces kill knife-wielding Palestinian youth in Jerusalem

Xinhua, November 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian youth on Friday evening after he allegedly tried to stab a security personnel in East Jerusalem, Israel's police said.

The incident took place in a minibus in Shuafat, a Palestinian neighborhood in the Israeli-annexed East Jerusalem.

Police spokeswoman Luba Samri said that during a "routine security check of passengers in a minibus traveling from Shuafat to western Jerusalem, the youth quickly approached a security guard, pulled a knife out and tried to stab him," Samri said.

"Amidst a struggle, the youth was neutralized and the knife was taken," she added.

No Israeli injuries were reported.

A year-long wave of violence in the West Bank and Israel has claimed the lives of at least 235 Palestinians and 34 Israelis since September 2015.

Israel says that most of the Palestinians were killed amidst perpetrating or attempting to perpetrate stabbing, car-ramming, and shooting attacks.

The Palestinians and human rights organizations say that Israel is using excessive force to quell the uprising, and in many cases kill Palestinians who could be stopped without using lethal force. Endit
