Austria sees boom in conferences, congresses hosted

Xinhua, November 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Austria has seen a 36-percent increase in the number of conferences and congresses it has hosted over the past five years, the Austrian Convention Bureau stated Thursday.

It said the increase in such meetings resulted in a subsequent 11-percent increase in the number of overnight hotel stays in 2015 to 3.1 million, according to an Austria Press Agency report.

In addition it noted the influx generated value for the national capital Vienna that surpassed the one-billion-euro (about 1.06 billion U.S. dollars) mark for the first time.

"The location, infrastructure, and stability of Austria as well as the professionalism of local businesses contribute to the great success," the Austrian Convention Bureau stated.

A further analysis by the Meeting Industry Report Austria (mira) found that congresses in particular have seen a large 48-percent increase, and that the number of participants is also trending upward. Endit
