Egypt condemned Thursday a suicide bomb attack that killed over 80 people and wounded more than 30 others in Babil province of the war-torn Iraq, Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Carried out Thursday afternoon by a tanker truck, the suicide bombing occurred at a fuel station in Shomali, a town east of the city of Hillah, some 100 km south of the capital Baghdad.

"Egypt stresses solidarity with the government and people of Iraq against the phenomenon of terrorism that targets Iraq's security and stability," Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said in the statement.

He voiced Egypt's support for all necessary measures by Iraq to combat rampant violence and terrorism in the Arab state.

Abu Zeid also called for collective international efforts to fight terrorism. Endit
