Macedonia launches measures to prevent bird flu

Macedonia's Food and Veterinary Agency announced Thursday that it had raised its level of precaution after receiving information about the outbreak of bird flu in several EU and regional countries.

Following the news of the spread of bird flu in several countries, the agency here said it had instructed all veterinary associations in Macedonia to report possible cases of increasing poultry mortality or dead migratory birds.

The agency also informed that it had launched several activities aimed at informing poultry breeders of measures they need to take in order to reduce the risk of outbreak or transmission in flocks.

The agency further requested that breeders across Macedonia report the cases of bird flu and poultry mortality as soon as possible to any veterinary association or vets in order to prevent the further spread of flu.

Currently, cases of bird flu have been reported in Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary, Austria, Denmark, Croatia, etc. Endit
