Dental cavities among children poses serious problem in Poland

Poland is one of the countries where dental cavities among children is a common and severe problem, experts emphasized Thursday.

During a conference held in Poznan, experts discussed the problems of dental caries among handicapped children, nursery children, as well as preventive treatment.

Prof. Maria Borysewicz-Lewicka, head of Pediatric Dentistry Clinic of Medical University in Pozna, said: "Neglecting oral hygiene, diet rich in simple sugars or infection with certain bacteria in the first months of a child's life contribute to the phenomenon.

A four-year program involving around 360,000 youngsters aimed at counteracting this disease recently wound up in Poland, the Polish Press Agency said.

The program commenced in 2012 and contained lessons for children on why and how to correctly brush teeth. A special mobile app for children aged 3-6 was developed, allowing children to learn through playing. Endit
