Businesses in Albania sign declaration to promote gender equity at work

Some 11 businesses contributing to economic and social development here on Wednesday signed a declaration to formalize their support to promote gender equity at the work place, local media reported.

This is the first time that such a declaration has been signed in Albania and will help to integrate the global principles of women empowerment into daily business practice, officials said.

The declaration was signed at a ceremony organized by Tirana municipality with the support of UN Women, and top executives in the field of IT, construction, banking and telecommunication.

Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj said the 11 businesses were the first to sign the principles, added more should be done in this regard.

He also called for implementation of laws against discrimination, stressing that time has come to put them in practice.

The Tirana municipality with the technical support of UN Women in Albania has over the year held a series of trainings with tens of businesses operating in Tirana with the aim of promoting gender equality and involvement of all actors. Endit
