Albania to start certification of livestock in Dec.

Xinhua, November 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Albania will start process of certification of all animals put up for sale starting from Dec. 1, 2016, Prime Minister Edi Rama announced in a meeting with representatives of the local government on Wednesday.

The prime minister also warned that in cases when animals don't have veterinary certificates, authorities will intervene and seize them.

This operation will be conducted in cooperation with State Police and the Ministry of Agriculture, Rama declared.

Local governments are neither concerned nor aware of their powers in connection with the veterinary check on livestock, Rama said while noting that in certain municipalities, the situation appears even worse with markets operating far below standards.

He pledged full government support in operations to close down markets found to be below standards.

According to him, in 2017, all animals will be bred on farms and there will be no chance of unregistered animals being made available for sale on the livestock market. Endit
