Sri Lanka mulls setting up UK style fraud office to fight corruption

Xinhua, November 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Sri Lankan government is considering setting up a UK style Serious Fraud Office in the island country to fight corruption, a minister said Wednesday.

Media Minister Gayantha Karunathilleke said that the government has been paying attention to restructuring the anti-corruption committee secretariat, which was established in 2015.

The fully powered Serious Fraud Office would be similar to the Serious Frauds Office in the United Kingdom, he said.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's proposal to continue the operations of the anti corruption committee secretariat until the new office is built up, was already approved by the cabinet. Endit
