Xinhua, November 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Professional, balanced and independent media in the coverage of elections is a pre-condition for democratic elections, Head of OSCE Presence in Albania, Bernd Borchardt, declared Tuesday at the opening ceremony of the Media Development Forum.

This is the second year that this forum is held and this time it focused on topics such as developments and legislative initiatives in the field of freedom of the media; Albanian Radio-Television challenges; media, elections, transparency and access to information; and professional journalism standards and media qualification level in Albania, OSCE said in a press release.

The ambassador stressed in his address that OSCE Presence in Albania is committed to supporting the electoral reform.

Borchardt also pledged the support of OSCE for journalists, adding that they deserve a better social position and job security. In this regard, he appealed for rigid adherence to code of labor in all companies.
