Xinhua, November 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least 56 people, including 48 children, fell sick with a suspected food poisoning after attending a children talent festival in western Ukraine, authorities said Tuesday.

The State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection said that people appealed for medical assistance after eating apparently toxic food in one of the restaurants during the festival Pearl of Kamenetz in Khmelnytsky region.

Most of those fallen ill were diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis, the agency said.

At least three children were being treated in hospitals in severe condition, local media reported.

More than 1,000 people have participated in the three-day festival, which ended on Monday.

Ukrainian food safety authorities were investigating the cause of the incident. Endit
