Commentary: China-LatAm community of common destiny will benefit all

Xinhua, November 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

The community of common destiny that China and Latin American countries are endeavoring to build will not only lead their ties to a new height, but also benefit the world at large.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is paying his third visit to Latin America since he took office in 2013. Such high frequency of visits has showed Beijing's determination to build the community of shared destiny with the region and further their relations on the basis of equality, mutual benefit and common development.

The China-Latin America community of common destiny is represented in various aspects.

First, China and Latin America have conducted candid dialogue and broadened their consensus, providing political guarantee for the sustained and sound development of bilateral ties.

Sharing a history of fighting for independence, China and Latin America have empathy with each other and treat their relations from a strategic and long-term perspective.

The two sides can understand and support each other on issues concerning their key interests such as territorial sovereignty and development rights.

Secondly, on such a solid political basis, China and Latin America can integrate their development strategies and carry out pragmatic cooperation.

Dovetailing their development strategies can offer a top-level design to connect domestic and overseas markets, integrate industry chains and value chains, and deepen China-Latin America cooperation.

Third, fruits of cooperation are being shared to benefit the two peoples.

The Year of China-Latin America Cultural Exchange celebrated in 2016 has strengthened the friendship and mutual understanding between the two peoples.

Xi, during his visit, announced new measures such as increasing the number of training opportunities for Latin America and the Caribbean to 10,000 in three years, setting up a center for press exchange in China and holding a roundtable on environment and development strategies in Beijing in 2017.

Furthermore, bilateral cooperation under the community of shared destiny will benefit the world as well.

Deepening bilateral cooperation in economy and trade, and actively participating in trade, investments and innovation in the Asia-Pacific not only accord with the development demands of the two sides, but also inject confidence and dynamism into the world economy.

China-LatAm collaboration in such issues as climate change and sustainable development will also set an example for South-South cooperation, help developing countries gain a greater say on the global stage and provide wisdom for global governance. Endi
