Number of Bulgarian tourists grows by 19.1 pct in Q3

The number of Bulgarian residents who made tourist trips was 1.52 million in the third quarter of 2016, a 19.1-percent increase year-on-year, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said Monday.

As many as 81.3 percent of the Bulgarians travelled only within the country, 13.3 percent travelled abroad, and 5.4 percent travelled both in the country and abroad, NSI said.

Compared to the same quarter of 2015, an increase was observed in the number of Bulgarian residents who travelled both in the country and abroad by 31.9 percent, with the number who traveled only in the country growing by 20.3 percent, and only abroad by 7.9 percent.

The majority of tourist trips in the country as well as abroad were for "holiday and recreation," which respectively accounted for 70.7 percent and 65.7 percent of the total, NSI said.

Meanwhile, the survey, which covers people aged 15 and over, showed that the average spending per person for private trip was 354 Bulgian lev (192.29 U.S. dollars) in the country and 750 Bulgarian lev abroad.

At the same time, the average expenditure per person on business trips was nearly 180 Bulgarian lev for domestic trips and 1,111 Bulgarian lev for business trips abroad. Endit
