The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Monday.

-- The head of Zambia's prison body said the prison population has soared to over 20,000, signaling a need to expand prison facilities.

Percy Chato, Commissioner-General of the Zambia Correctional Service, said the inmate population had climbed to more than 20,000 against a holding capacity of 8,350. (Daily Nation)

-- The Zambian government has urged mining firms to take advantage of the upswing in copper prices to increase investments in mineral explorations.

The prices of the red metal have been hovering above 5,000 U. S. dollars per tonne in recent weeks. (Times of Zambia)

-- Dutch development bank FMO has provided 15 million U.S. dollars to a Zambian-based bank to enhance the growth of small and medium enterprises as well as the agriculture sector.
