Less than 3 in 10 U.S. citizens satisfied with their country: Poll

Xinhua, November 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

A new Gallup poll shows that only 27 percent of U.S. citizens are satisfied with the way things are going in their country, plunging 10 percentage points in one month.

The number reached 37 percent, its highest level in a decade, prior to the presidential elections, but u-turned after Republican candidate Donald Trump won the White House, the consulting company said.

Discontent among Democrat voters largely contributed to the drop, with their satisfactory level dropping from 62 percent to 34 percent.

The current overall mood is consistent with the 2016 average but 10 percent below the historical average.

The lowest number registered this year appeared in July during the heat of the presidential campaign, considered one of the most negative in modern U.S. history.

Gallup started the research in 1979, and have conducted more than 300 polls since then. Enditem
