The results of Czech statistical Office was made after a monthly survey of prices of 26 kinds of food on the shelves in Czech stores. People have to pay more money for the purchase of butter, sugar and eggs.

If put all of the observed products in one shopping cart, the price is four percent higher than in last November.

The most significant increase was in Edam, customers have to pay 138.48 crowns (about 5.5 U.S. dollars) per kg this year, while last year it only cost 105 crowns.

The food prices in the country were influenced by many factors this year. In the first half of 2016, farmers sold milk with prices below production costs for they worried about economy recession. The price of milk fell to the bottom in July in Czech shops, where people could buy a liter for 16.83 crowns on average.

The rise in price of eggs was influenced by current problem with the discovery of salmonella in eggs from Poland, the demand for Czech produced eggs grow. Another factor is the promotions by retail chains. (1 U.S. dollar = 25 crowns) Endit
